Voted 5/5 | I don't generally enjoy reading chapters of historical background when picking up a book but Nick Howe walks you through Mount Washington's tragedies one by one in this way. At first I couldn't believe what I was reading, such as people starting to walk up a huge mountain without even a topcoat. Later, the stories of present day hikers continuing to climb upward in bad weather seem almost tame in comparison.
