Product Description

Versatility is the name of the game with the REI Flash 18. For use in your larger backpack or duffel, this lightweight daypack cleverly converts into a stuff sack simply by turning it inside out!

Features

Turn inside out and it's a stuff sack to help organize your gear; once at basecamp, reverse it and use as a daypack for short hikes away from camp

Hydration-compatible design has an hose exit port and an internal sleeve to hold a hydration reservoir, sold separately

Top-loading entry features an efficient, single drawcord that cinches skirt closed with single tug; small flap covers the opening when cinched closed

Lightweight shoulder straps supply comfortable load carrying; adjustable, sliding sternum strap adds stability and helps keep straps ideally positioned

Front of pack features twin daisy chains running vertically and a tool loop at the bottom for attaching items on the front of the pack

Storage sleeve inside features organizer slots sized for the Ten Essentials

140-denier ripstop nylon construction provides increased durability without added weight; polyurethane coating offers weather resistance

My Experience...

Like the reviews of the older model said, this is great for specific purposes... but aren't all packs?

I use mine as a leader's pack while doing long alpine rock routes. The pack is simple in that it is a tube with two rows of daisy chains down the back. I've added shock cord between daisy chains which allows me to store crampons, jackets, helmet etc. Also, I've sewn on another tool loop to accommodate two ice tools.

I don't use a foam pad in the pack and just use my jacket to keep things off my back instead.

I also use this pack for long dayhikes/scrambles, train running and biking. As a small pack, you can't get much better for under $30.
