Here in New England we get lots of hard ice but not much neve, and we have no glaciers and few snowfields large enough to require self-arrest. I decided to get an axe with a "serious" pick but that was otherwise as light as possible.
Well, the Cosmique's pick works well on ice, but it's heavy. The straight, gripless shaft is useless on steep ice (adding a leash helps).
No complaints with manufacture or design, but this was the wrong axe for me. I've now got a couple of real ice tools for the vertical stuff, and I'd recommend a lighter axe (like the BD Raven) for anyone who has a use for a general alpine axe.
