Voted 5/5 | The Trails of the Angeles has many classic hikes and climbs in the San Gabriel Mountains. The book begins with an overview of the mountain range, animal and plant life, followed by man's historical presence in the area.
The high country trips referenced above in the San Bernardino National Forest all take place primarily in the Cucamonga wilderness area just east of Mount Baldy. These mountains are at the eastern end of the San Gabriel Mountains but are technically part of the San Bernardino National Forest. Each hike described in the book will include length, elevation climb/decline, difficulty, best season and required permits.
The book also includes a 21 x 29.5 two-sided Trail Map made of lightly glossed paper which is resistant to light moisture. A valuable resource to throw in your pack. You will find all 100 hikes listed along with the designated trails, use-trails and cross country routes. I wore the map out so thoroughly that I bought the book again just to get another map. | | Posted Jul 5, 2007 2:42 am | | Vic Hanson | Glad it was updated | |
Voted 5/5 | It was a great guidebook before (I had the 7th edition) but the trail conditions were getting out of date. The latest update will be very welcome. | | Posted Feb 12, 2008 10:53 pm |
