johnmAn essential for hiking in the San Bernardino National Forest

Voted 5/5

This book is actually broken into three distinct sections including 56 hikes in the San Bernardino Mountains, 37 in the San Jacinto Mountains and 7 in the Santa Rosa Mountains. Each of the three sections is preceded by a description of the specific region, plant and animal life, and man's historical presence in the area. Each hike will include length, elevation climb/decline, difficulty, best season and required permits. The hike and trail descriptions are straightforward and provide a good overview. A great book to pick-up if your looking to conquer Southern California's two best known summits, San Gorgonio and San Jacinto.

The book also includes a 21 x 29.5 two-sided Trail Map made of lightly glossed paper which is resistant to light moisture. I would buy this book just for the map. A valuable resource to throw in your pack. You will find all 100 hikes listed along with the designated trails, use-trails and cross country routes.
