I don't believe Mountainsmith is making this pack any longer, but it is still available at a discount on some gear retailer's websites (the latest I've seen is $99!) This pack is hydration compatible with 2 exit ports (left and right) to choose from for your drinking tube. It is just big enough to hold a bear-resistant food canister upright and inside (like a Garcia or BearVault). Its lid is removable and converts to a fanny pack. Its fabric is highly water-resistant and it has waterproof zippers. It has an adjustable padded hipbelt and it's mainly top loading but it does have one side zipper. There are two mesh side pockets that work well for water bottles or other small item such as tent poles.

The men's version of this pack is the Auspex.

I searched long and hard for a pack with these features and I've been very happy with my Chimera. It's the most comfortable pack that I have ever carried. I've had it for 3 years now and can't say anything but good things about it!

"I am in love with this world. I have nestled lovingly in it. I have climbed its mountains, roamed its forests, sailed its waters, crossed its deserts, felt the sting of its frosts, the oppression of its heats, the drench of its rains, the fury of its winds, and always have beauty and joy waited upon my goings and comings."   --John Burroughs
