The SARC is designed for day trips to week-long excursions. The frame, which consists of two strips of 7075 T-6 aluminum, can be removed to make a lighter, softer pack. Back padding is a removeable Evazote foam bivy pad. The fannypack lid can be removed and replaced with a SUMMIT FLAP for the summit bid. The hipbelt (which also can be removed) has 2 buckles to distribute the weight more evenly over the pelvis. A spectra thread runs through all of the major seams. For more details on pack construction click here.

These packs, like all McHale Packs, are custom made. Other features can include the following: ice tool tubes, removeable/replaceable compression straps, crampon patches, removeable wand/water-bottle pockets, and ski division loops for the compression straps. Packs can be made with cordura or spectra or both. There are a variety of color schemes one can choose for both the pack cloth and the webbing. Prices may vary according to the options.

There are also a variety of accessories for these packs.

These packs are custum fitted based on your measurements.

These packs are built after you place your order. For that reason, expect 6-8 weeks for delivery. However, there are some stock packs available, as well as loaners, if time is of the essence.

I've had a SARC now for 4 years and absolutely love it. A real load hauler, it breaks down into an excellent day pack for summit day. Much better than those clunky packs made by other companies.

Since it is custom made, it fits me without the myriad adjustments that would be necessary with other packs. The pack epitomizes comfort--something packs, by their very nature, are not supposed to be able to do.

These packs are absolutely bomber. The stitching is well anchored at every point. You can actually use the haul loop as a haul loop without it ripping out.

I purchaced the side pockets (see bottom photo) and added another 1000 cubic inches to my pack. Very simple to attach/detach and make excellent food hanging bags.

Another idea that I love is the removeable snow shovel pocket. Great for snow shovels and other items that I could carry on the outside. Much more adjustable and workable than a snow shovel flap.

One thing that I'd like to add: Ever since I've started using McHale packs (I have the SARC's little brother--the 0-SARC) I have never been able to find another pack that could satisfy me. No one else has so harmoniously combined simplicity with versatility. No useless frills that don't really work the way companies say they do, but rather just add weight and get in the way. Just pure function, simplicity, and comfort.
