Product Description

Black Diamond designed the Spectre Ice Piton to provide alternative, pound-in protection on mixed and thin ice lines where traditional pro is just a pipe dream. Doubling as a piton, the Spectre can be pounded into frozen moss, mud and icy cracks. A redesigned profile offers better clearance at the eye when placing or removing. Reverse teeth prevent it from being pulled out and cutouts in the body have shaved 54 grams in weight. Use it as an intermediary placement when you're desperate—just drop it in a pick placement hole and give it a couple of taps before you move on to that better ice just out of reach. Comes with a doubled Spectra sling.

relegated to using this, but it has happened, better in a frozen crack then in raw ice. Can't imagine holding up in ice, but for mixed thin terrain it is a good piece to have on the rack.

""You cannot stay on the summit forever; you have to come down again. So why bother in the first place? Just this: What is above knows what is below, but what is below does not know what is above. One climbs, one sees. One descends, one sees no longer, but one has seen. There is an art of conducting oneself in the lower regions by the memory of what one saw higher up. When one can no longer see, one can at least still know.""   --Rene Daumal
