Reviews | earthquakes | Great shoe... | |
Voted 5/5 | I tried on many and this was the one I chose. I began my climbing life using the Five-Ten Spires. Now that I've bettered my skills and I'm climbing harder grades, I wanted a more technical shoe, but one that was comfy. I lead in the low .10's and mostly find myself climbing multi-pitch trad in the 5.8 - 5.10c range. My Spires were beginning to show their age and their limits at the grade.
Enter the Techno. I tried on this shoe with several others to compare them: Miura, Gambit, Mythos, Defy, Evo and a pair by Red Chili, whose name I forget. So far I've only used them on a wall, but, these performed better than the rest especially in comfort. I could not bring myself to buy those toe crushing more agressive sport climbing shoes...ouch! The thing that sold me was this shoe's ability to leave the toe-box somewhat loose, while still being able to cinch it tight on the heel. If you have a wide forefoot and a narrow heel, this is a great shoe as you can still feel your toes, but not have to worry about a slipping heel.
The shoe works great in cracks, better than my Spires at least, and I felt it was sensitive enough edge well and grip tiny ledges. I like my shoes somewhat loose and comfy, so I got a half size larger than my street shoes. But, that may be just the way Scarpa's fit.
Overall a good shoe and bound to be a real performer. I take them to the alpine tomorrow. | | Posted Sep 5, 2008 5:17 pm |
