Product DescriptionWe set out to make the finest single-stem unit we possibly could and the Master Cam is the result. We made our Slider Nuts over 25 years ago, so we are no strangers to flexible, single-stem designs. The Master Cam combines a nice, flexy cable with an ultra-narrow head for hard aid or free climbing. Since we invented the CNC milled cam-stop, we naturally applied them to Master Cams. We also joined our silky-smooth trigger assembly with an ergonomic thumb piece to provide precise control over placement and retraction. The longer body affords additional reach when top-stepping or stretching for that hard-to-get placement. The Range Finder system also provides critical placement feedback for those who need it. Master Cams are hand-built right here in our Bend, Oregon shop. Each one is thoroughly inspected and every unit is tested to 5 kN. Master Cams are CE and UIAA certified.

Voted 5/5 | Well, not quite. The heads of Aliens are still a bit narrower than the heads of the Master Cams, but these will give CCH a run for the money. The action on the cams is nice and they seem to slot into the same placements as Aliens would without complaint. They are sized the same as the smaller TCUs, and give you 4-cam security in narrower places than a TCU would fit! Color coded alike, TCU users can move into placing these without hesitation. Voted 5/5 | I need to correct myself on this one, the heads of the Master Cams are actually a few mm narrower than the same size Aliens. | | Posted Mar 26, 2008 12:36 pm | | rpc | Not as good as Aliens
Voted 4/5 | Aliens still superior for pin scar placements. These are pretty close - (better for that sort of thing than TCU's & esp. C3's IMHO). Problem is that the trigger mechanism still getsin the way, here's what I mean:

Voted 5/5 | i've stayed away from buying aliens for my rack mainly because they can freeze up in the cold (but i'll use aliens if someone else has them on their rack on an above freezing day).
i was a little sketched on how skinny the lobes are on the #2 and lower. but i liked the idea of 4 lobes instead of 3 so i picked a few up. like everything else metolius, they are bomber and then some. yes, they are heavier than some other units (ultralight tTCU), but not by much.
I took a fall on my #2 the other day and it did it's job well. the placement was a bit awkward as the crack was angled to the right almost to the point of being horizontal. the stem bent over the edge well and sprung back to shape when removed. some people have feared that the attachments of the kevlar cords to the trigger would get in the way in a horizontal placement, it didn't. the cord attachments just shifted around the stem and out of the way.
these feel much more secure then a tcu in most placements. these will be the first to leave home on my rack, but i'll probably double up with tcus. | | Posted Apr 27, 2009 5:38 am | | squishy | nice addition to the Met line
Hasn't voted | I have a full set of power cams and TCU's, I picked up the 5 and 6 master cam to double the sizes larger than TCU's. I love having a single stem option that matches everything else I have. The green master is the same size as the green powercam and so on. I will continue to double up with these now instead of power cams or TCU's. They need to make a hybrid version to truly be an Alien killer, I still had to buy alien hybrids for pin scars and such. The trigger and action is better on the master cams but the alien lobe design will be hard to beat. I picked up my masters already on sale at REI within their 1st year, a great value and a great all around cam. Not the perfect cam for anything but well suited for many tasks. They are far stiffer than aliens but much more flexible than the tradition U-stem cable cams... | | Posted May 11, 2009 11:17 am |
