Voted 5/5 | I purchased my Sony DSC-S75 from the Army Air Force Exchange Service for about $650, and the price has come down substantially in one year! It is a bit large, but that makes it OK for work in cold with gloves on. I have not had it in extreme cold, so I cannot speak for operational reliability in cold, though Liquid Crystal Display often is substandard to non-operational in extreme cold temperatures. The photo quality is evident as witnessed in every single photo I have submitted to summitpost to date. With carrying a back up battery and a 128MB memory stick, I have NEVER had a concern about running out of battery or "film." While I saw smaller cameras, cheaper cameras, etc., I settled for this Sony due in part to the (1) overall quality plus (2) the outstanding world wide support for Sony products (3) and observed performance of a buddy of mine with the identical camera. You really have to be isolated to not be able to get Sony accessories. To recharge in Europe, I only need an adaptor plug. This camera was my introduction to the digital world from the Single Lense Reflex (SLR) camera world, and I have no regrets. Read the manual, practice a little, and you'll be current in the digital photography world. Voted 5/5 | I really have enjoyed my S75. It goes everywhere with me. I have used it in some of the nastiest conditions, and I have been very impressed with it. Unfortunately, I have dropped it a few times, but the camera continues to function like nothing happened. (Am I lucky? Probably.)
It has numerous picture sizes and modes you can shoot with. I haven't seen any other digital camera that produces any better quality pictures. I really like the memory stick technology too, because the memory sticks are tiny, yet sturdy and big enough to add / remove with gloves on.
Shooting video clips with it is not as ackward to switch to like a few other cameras I have tried using.
Plusses: Large display screen and easy to use on-screen menu that can stay out of the way when you want it to.
NOTE: Sony had several models in the DSC lineup, but for some reason, are no longer available. I suspect that if you can hold off a few more months on a DC, Sony will probably have a new model lineup that will probably be better priced and have even more features. | | Posted May 9, 2003 4:12 pm |
