Reviews | delmarco | Great Pack After 2 Fun Years! | |
Voted 5/5 |
This pack has outlived many others that I've accumalated over the years and it remains one of my favorites and most versatile packs that can comfortably replace a daypack on a backyard alpine ascent or man up and take on serious winter weekenders.
I love that you can carry Rope and all your climbing hardware and tools for ice climbing in addition to Skiis, Snowshoes at the same time without losing interior space or load stability. Also the fit is small-medium torso friendly and very easy to modify on the fly. I don't usually like lids since the tend to add weight to packs but I love this one. It is removable and if you as flexible as me (and that is not saying I'm flexible at all) you can reach over your head into the top pocket and pull out lipbalm, cameras, etc... without stopiing and removing the pack.
Although the pack is 4 lbs it doesn't seem bulky/heavy at all and most of the weight is traded off for the superior quality/construction of this pack.
One feature I did find useful that is unique to this pack (as a 2005/2006 model) is the factory hipbelt comes off and you can attach the pack directly to your climbing harness to stabilize the load on you hips during your ascents and easily unclip it when you get to your climb. This is very useful when carrying heavy gear and you sort of want to have your harness on and ready when you get to the top/or you need to use your harness during the ascent.
The rest of the pack is designed to be simple and classic alpine without the useless frills and thrills that come and go each year on fad packs. It does sport an insulated hydration pocket, bivy mat and color coded tabs for the interior pockets, so it is modernized which for under $150 makes it even more of a bargin.
I have the yellow-gold/black color that was on closeout sale for $99 at Sierra Trading Post a few years back.
5 stars for this easy to use, comfortable classic alpine/snow acsent pack.
