Product DescriptionSmaller-sized canister for weekend trips. Specifications as listed by the manufacturer are as follows :
- Weight: 1.85 lbs.
- Diameter: 7.4 in.
- Length: 8.0 in.
- Volume: 275 cu. in.
Note: This thing uses different locking latches !The latches that this canister uses are not same as what is found on the Garcia or Bearikade canisters - a coin will not work. However, a key, flat screwdriver, or nail file (such as is found on the average swiss army knife) probably will work.
Note that the photo shown on the manufacturer's website shows a typical Garcia canister -

The latches shown in this photo above are not what is found on the Bare Boxer Contender (below) -

The product came with instructions describing its use. It might be a good idea to check that you have something that can operate the latches before heading out into the backcountry.Approval StatusAs of 12-March-2008, this canister is approved for use in the Sierra Nevada by the Sierra Interagency Black Bear Group. Country of OriginFor those to whom this is important, though Golf City Products' contact address is in California, the canister itself is made in China. Images |

Voted 3/5 | Can't beat the price on this thing. I rarely use prepackaged food, so getting one night's worth of stuff in was a tight squeeze. It weighs only a bit less than my full-sized Bearikade, but works in a small pack better.
So far I've only used it on a single overnight trip, at around 10800' in an area above treeline, just below the Lyell Glacier in Yosemite National Park. Didn't see any bears up there, but plenty of marmots. | | Posted Aug 6, 2007 3:43 pm |
