tarolGreat book!

Voted 5/5

This is a book I've used many times. It provides clear, concise information that I've found to be correct in most cases. The only thing I would point out is that the trails in the GTW are often not maintained up to the standards some hikers are used to and the book doesn't really go into that. The Forest Service has no trail crew employees and most trails are maintained by volunteer backcountry horsemen. Thus when this book rates a trail as easy it may be moderate due to the fact that there are many downed trees across the trail that haven't been cleared and it will take a lot of time and energy to go over or around them.

"I am in love with this world. I have nestled lovingly in it. I have climbed its mountains, roamed its forests, sailed its waters, crossed its deserts, felt the sting of its frosts, the oppression of its heats, the drench of its rains, the fury of its winds, and always have beauty and joy waited upon my goings and comings."   --John Burroughs
