Voted 5/5 | First off, I have yet to use these boots. I did however order a pair and talked with an Ebay.com seller about these boots. For fit the toe box is narrow, more so than the trango series from La Sportiva. While taking them on and off I noticed the insides of the uppers were bumpy, there were clumps of insulation and fabric that were bunched up in areas. When I asked the Ebay seller, he told me he noticed the same thing and he had talked with some shops that said, Kayland has been having problems with quality control. I walked around the house to see how they fit and noticed that the rand started to peel from the synthetic material right behind the leather on the toe. All that said it seems that Kayland really put forth a lot of R and D in there boots and if they fit well and didn't have issues with clumpy uppers they're a great boot, and would probably excel at technical ice climbing.
Now for the rest, after trying those size 12 Kayland boots on, I got to try on a slightly older model of the super ice in a 12.5 and they had a wider toe box, thicker rand, and used thinsulate instead of primaloft. The first thing I noticed was the fact that there are no clumpy spots of insulation and they have a wider toe box, which could be a result of the bigger size, but these seem to be built a bit tougher and they also walk fairly well, just enough rocker in the sole. I can't wait to use them this coming fall and winter for mountaineering and ice climbing.
One other thing that should be added is the fact that Kayland had sold out to a large company and now has bought back the company and this just happened, so the quatlity control should be way better and from what I have read the customer service is the beyond great.
As soon as I get a chance to use them, hopefully in the fall, I will post back here for a field report. | | Posted Feb 28, 2007 1:42 am |
