This is a great shovel for backcountry use. I have only used mine briefly, but it has worked well in the construction of snow caves and levelling platforms for tents when winter camping. The shovel packs really well on even a small pack since the handle can be completely removed. Very light weight and strudy anodized construction makes it bomb-proof when banging it against stone.

I really like my Transfer 7. It is large and sturdy enough to remove serious amounts of snow. It's not to heavy and fits well in my pack when the handle is removed. The grip is really comfortable and packs down well. This is the shovel the guide on our avalanche course recommended as well.
